About the College:

The Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN) is the peak professional mental health nursing organisation and the recognised credentialing body for mental health nurses in Australia.

It seeks to represent the profession at all levels of government and across all health service sectors. In addition, the ACMHN sets standards for practice, supports mental health nursing research and provides a forum for collegial support, networking and ongoing professional development for its members. ACMHN also works to promote public confidence in and professional recognition of mental health nursing.

The Australian College of Mental Health Nurses hosts the annual International Mental Health Nursing Conference welcoming delegates and special guests from all around the world. A robust and diverse program is offered to delegates through the Conference Program Committee with the guidance of the Board of Directors and we are pleased to offer this important learning and networking opportunity to our community.

THEME

The World Health Organisation has designated 2020 as the Year of the Nurse and Midwife in recognition of the vital roles they play in delivering health for all.

  • What is the unique and distinct contribution that mental health nurses make in contemporary healthcare?

  • How should mental health nurses develop their knowledge and skills to meet future needs of people in our care?

  • How do we ensure we have a sustainable and skilled mental health nursing workforce into the future?

This conference theme 2020 Vision: Mental Health Nursing in Focus recognizes the vital role of mental health nurses to the health and mental health of the community. It will showcase the knowledge, skills and expertise associated with the unique contribution mental health nurses make and it will provide opportunity for lively discussion and debate around the challenges associated with addressing issues that impact on recruitment and retention into the specialty.

Raising the visibility of the mental health nursing workforce requires a sustained and targeted effort - keynotes will be invited to share with us their ideas around how we ensure that the mental health nursing not only survives, but flourishes - now and into the future. And a range of workshops and concurrent presentations will provide practitioners - new, emerging and leading – with opportunities to learn and build on their practice.
